Journaling Journey

As much as I pray for folks, you would think that keeping a prayer journal would not be a new concept for me. But honestly, I never really took the time to deliberately journal my prayers for any length of time. Like a lot of things I plan to commit to my daily routine, this one also gets pushed aside every year. I do write a LOT, but it is often haphazard and in whatever notebook is closest to me at the time.
“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” Matthew 18:19-20  I know this, and I participate in group prayer often. But the reality is,  I sometimes forget for whom and for what I have prayed. So, when a friend asked to be part of a prayer group, and we began one here, I began taking this prayer journaling thing a little more seriously. We chat, we vent and we express our needs to each other and before the Lord. From current events to our current financial status, we cover the gamut, and then we cover it with God’s word. Keeping a log of prayers has allowed me to see that God is at work in answering prayer, and He is also at work in the waiting.
When I add people and circumstances to my prayer journal, I can follow up and excitedly post a “PTL” next to answered prayer or humbly continue to ask God to use the situation for His glory and for the good of His people. It has been a great help to my prayer life and has caused me to spend more time alone with God. I am nowhere near where I want to be as far as how much time I spend in the Word, but I continue to grow in my faith with every step I take.
Try it out next time you pray. He hears you, He loves you and He desires communion with you. Happy journaling!
Heavenly Father, I pray this day for my readers who are experiencing any pain, illness or fear. Cover them with your mercy and love. You will never leave us nor forsake us. We know that you alone are Holy and we desire to give you glory in every situation. May we cling to your promises and yearn for your kingdom. This I pray in Jesus’ Name. AMEN
